The achievements for Persona 6 have leaked via Steam, revealing major details about the game previously unknown to fans—and have indicated the game could be launching sooner than previously thought.

As seen on Exophase (via Reddit), Persona 6’s Steam achievements were published today and fans are already swarming the page to discern information about the secretive title. The website is a highly reliable source for Steam achievement data, drawing its information directly from Steam’s backend. However, fans should bear in mind any content mentioned has the possibility to change in the final product.

What We Learned About Persona 6 From Achievements

The first key detail is the name of the vigilante group that players will join in Persona 6, named “Hex”, through signing a contract. Previous game teasers have hinted at a concept similar to The Phantom Thieves in Persona 5, with more focus on investigation or a law enforcement connection. Multiple words in the achievements back up this theme, such as “beat” (referring to a policeman’s beat) around the game’s key location.

Dungeon names have also been revealed: Justiceopolis, Reverie Dreamland, Hellrite Stage, Craveheart Tower, Yama’s Ledger and Enlightenment Factory. Players will be tasked with “arresting” perpetrators in these dungeons, further looping in the vigilante justice theme. Players can also apprehend “Wanted Shadows” for a previously unknown character called Wilhelmina.

Persona 6 will take place in Yokohama—a major city but quite different from Persona 4’s rural setting of Inaba and Persona 5’s Tokyo locales. Set by the sea, fans can expect a more laidback experience as compared to the hustle and bustle of Shibuya and Shinjuku. Both of those titles are known as the best JRPGs ever, so it’s safe to say Yokohama will be a treat to explore.

Previous game teasers have hinted at a concept similar to The Phantom Thieves in Persona 5, with more focus on investigation or a law enforcement connection.

The game is set to feature investigation mechanics at its heart, with the achievement “Following the Thread” hinting that players can make connections between clues during “investigation meetings”. That means fans might literally be solving cases and unmasking crooks using traditional detective methods.

Also returning are social links, now seemingly referred to as Connections. The Major and Minor arcana key to previous entries appear to be back, with social networking taking a much bigger role. Fans can earn an achievement called “How Many Friends Can A Guy Have?” for forming “80 connections”, indicating there are far more people to meet in Persona 6 than any other previous entry. Romantic relationships also return.

Making a comeback will, of course, be the Velvet Room and Persona fusions, which have been integral to the franchise in past entries, alongside new systems such as Spirit Crystallization and Bloodstruck Skills. Little is known about these new additions, as the achievements are vague and are only mentioned once.

In true Persona fashion, fans can also spend their free time by working part-time jobs, studying for exams or playing mini-games. Maxing out social stats will be rewarded with an achievement, as will defeating The Reaper—an iconic Persona boss who lurks deep in dungeons and hunts the player for spending too long in a single area.

When Can We Expect Persona 6?

With the leak of Persona 6’s achievements, fans have been breathlessly speculating that the game could be coming much sooner than first thought. The game is currently available for wishlisting on Steam, but the release date says “To Be Announced”, and Atlus have been tight-lipped as to when fans can expect the next installment in the long-running JRPG franchise.

One fan on Reddit noted that achievements are usually uploaded around 1 month before a game is released, but it seems impossible that Atlus would surprise launch a game as major as Persona 6—the games usually receive many months of intense marketing. The next game set to launch is Persona 4 Revival, but even that is coming early next year, and it’s hard to imagine Atlus dropping a major new entry right in the middle of marketing its upcoming remake.

Persona 4 Revival has also been getting previewed at major gaming events like Gamescom recently, so it certainly appears like Atlus’ focus is on that title for now. It will also be shown off at Tokyo Game Show later this month, indicating the developer has no plans to launch Persona 6 suddenly—it just doesn’t make sense.

In that case, it seems the achievements have been uploaded early by human error and may be liable to change, or that a Persona 6 announcement is imminent with a lengthy reveal, meaning all the new details are discussed openly by Atlus and publisher SEGA.
